Ellen Vera, Co-Founder & Board President
As one of the founders and staff of the Cincinnati Union Cooperative Initiative and CUCI’s first co-op, Our Harvest, Ellen’s long history of social entrepreneurship has been pivotal in helping launch CareShare. She developed the CareShare concept and first prototype when she became pregnant and encountered impossibly long waiting lists and high fees, with caregivers being paid $9-$10/hour. Ellen & her husband knew there had to be a better way. Launching the CareShare pilot has allowed them to access quality, affordable, culturally competent care; a wonderful secure attachment between their child and his caregiver; and a parent support group. She is passionate about respecting caregivers with dignified wages and sharing this opportunity with all parents.
Susan Stai, CEO
Susan is the startup CEO of CareShare who brings over 35 years of experience in the child care sector with her to lead this business from prototype to a thriving and fully functional company. Susan has only been on the ground since June 3, 2019 and within a few months time has codified the business’ initial start up systems (eg. HR, legal, and parent recruitment etc), finalized the launch of a basic website, and kicked off recruitment efforts. Susan is passionate about creating a child care system that is a win-win for both parents and caregivers and will be instrumental in leading CareShare to profitability.
Vilma Gomez, Founding Caregiver and Member of Startup Board of Directors
Vilma is the first CareShare caregiver, working for the prototype, helping to work out its initial systems, and leading potential caregiver recruitment. Before working for CareShare, Vilma spent 7 years in the cleaning sector at $9-10 an hour. She had to work nights and weekends, making it difficult to spend time with her 3-year-old daughter. Working for CareShare opened up new opportunities. Her schedule now syncs with her daughter’s waking times. She earns $17.50/hour with 3 weeks’ paid time off. With the extra money, she is building a house for her family in Honduras.
Yulanda Gray, Member of Startup Board of Directors
Yulanda has over 25 years of experience as an early childhood education teacher working in child care centers. She has been a part of the CareShare team since the organizing committee was launched in January of 2019 and her experience and guidance have been instrumental in helping the founders lay a good foundation including finding the right startup CEO. Yulanda also has deep experience with developing early childhood curriculum and working with children with disabilities.
Alexis Gomez, Member of Startup Board of Directors
Alexis is one of the founding members of the CareShare organizing committee and start up board of directors. She has over 5 years of experience as a nanny, has been instrumental in developing initial systems and protocols and is excited to join the team as an additional caregiver as soon as more shares are formed.
